DIY Salvation was written by Pete circa 2008.
As you have probably gathered, this is a ‘message song’. The message is ....if you want the world to be as good for your Grandchildren as it has been for you, then YOU have to do something about it – the politicians, the bankers, the priests and so forth are not, when the crunch comes, going to concern themselves about the likes of you or your grandkids.
The song was first released on PBGB V in 2009. That version featured Pete on Vocals and Drums, Kevin Abbey and Neil Porter on Guitar, Bill Cairncross on Keyboards, and Colin Enright on Bass.
The version currently on the Juke Box was released on PBGB’s ‘Meanwhile’ cd in 2010. The ‘Meanwhile’ version was a collaboration between Pete and Neil. Pete asked Neil to ‘go over the top’ in the production. Apart from Pete on lead Vocals and Drums, everything else you hear is all Neil – on bass, guitars, keyboards, backing vocals and all sorts of studio ‘stuff’.
