So Good To See You

from THE BRETT RALPH PROJECT by Brett Ralph

/

about

Brett wrote this track in response to this week's bushfire emergency on the Far South Coast, and particularly his home town, Eden. He was there, staring at the flames and red sky.
He came to the Shed with the song. and he and guitarist Manny Aigner caught this on the first recorded take.
Passion, love and community!

SO GOOD TO SEE YOU.

EM C, G, D. Chorus goes to C and D twice ending on the Em loop. Flat out. Its a happy song. Happy to be here folk rock song.

I thought I'd seen everything,
until I saw my Home was burning.
Mallacoota to Twofold Bay ablaze.
But down the Eden Wharves we could hardly see
for a hundred metres round us.
Beyond that was black, below a blood red haze.
Everywhere around the Eden wharves
cars and vans parked close together.
Near the water cannon tugs
for most of us seemed wise.
With one on the falling yet unlit ash
and the other on the windy weather,
I found it hard to believe my burning eyes.
So Good To See You
So Good To See You Again.
Everyone along Eden's Wharves,
knew that all around was burning.
Out to the East looked like bushfires blazed at sea.
Everyone wore a mask to breathe,
that failed to hide what was concerning.
Hearing only the winds and having nothing to see.
We got the news around midnight,
that our Chipmill then was burning
and not much later that our Kiah Store was okay.
But when it came around the Nullica
and our firetrucks were returning,
all we could do at the wharves
was wait and hope and pray.
So Good To See You
So Good To See You Again.
I thought I'd seen everything
'till I saw my home town burning.
I found it hard to believe my burning eyes,
when the winds just suddenly dropped right off
we heard the fire front was turning
and rain unbelievably fell from Eden skies.
Next morning it was crystal clear
when I saw our Chipmill burning,
after many sleepless nights, not even seeing a flame
and Twofold Bay looked like an oil slick,
as I watched its South Bay burning,
that way way too close,
was just how close we came.
So Good To See You
So Good To See You Again.
